I know I am like a lot of women out there that has zero time in the morning to make themselves look presentable to the world. Okay, mine might be due to pure laziness and the fact that I love to hit snooze, but nonetheless I have to scramble to make myself not look like an extra from The Walking Dead. I have streamlined my makeup routine during the work week and want to share that with you, along with the go-to products that I use. This routine will take you less than five minutes – pinky promise.
I don’t know about you, but this winter has been brutal on my skin. It has been extremely dry and moisturizer has become this girls best friend. I start my makeup routine with La Mer’s – Creme de la Mer (1oz. -$170). Can we stop and take a moment to appreciate how decadent and hydrating this product is. Thank you. I have used this product on my skin for years and it has become my favorite moisturizer to date. This in my opinion is the most important step in anyone’s skincare/makeup routines. If you can’t do anything else before you head out the door make sure to take time to moisturize. It is definitely not something to skip – your skin will thank you years from now young girls – trust me! If La Mer is not in your budget try this or this, two of my other favorites.
After I have moisturized my skin I use a great powder for all over coverage during the work week. I seriously just do not have time for the contouring, highlighting, bronzing, etc. Monday through Friday. It just doesn’t happen. I use Halo Hydrating Powder from Smashbox. Smashbox is one of my favorite makup brands out there. I am a huge fan of this powder. You know how some powders just look like you dusted your face with flour? Not this one, it goes on smooth and has great coverage. In my opinion it acts very similarly to a light cream foundation. The best part is I don’t have to reapply or touch up throughout the day. It stays put and my face never gets shiny as the day goes on. It is available in eight shades and retails for $49. I also recommend this.
I like to then add a little color to my cheeks. I have completely jumped on the Too Faced Papa Don’t Peach ($30) bandwagon. I have been using it for a little over a month now and it has become my blush of the moment. I usually switch up my blush choice throughout the year, but I really like the soft peach tone of this product for winter. Added bonus is that it totally smells like peaches. The smell takes me back to my Strawberry Shortcake dolls I had as a kid. Which coincidence enough, Stawberry’s peach friend was named, Peach Blush. I know, genius – right?!?! The one thing I learned early on with this blush is that it does have a highlighter in it – so make sure to use sparingly on the apple’s of your cheeks. If you are heavy-handed it tends to look too shiny in my opinion. I also love this and this for blush options.
I like to move on to my eyebrows next. I have posted about the product I use daily on my eyebrows before in blog post: favorite five: beauty items. It is Elizabeth Mott’s Queen of the Fill ($20). I absolutely love love love this product. As we get older our brows tend to get less full and need a little help. This is the quickest and easiest brow product I have found and trust me I have tried them all! I am lucky, as I never fell victim to the over pluck your eyebrow trend that was a complete disaster back in the day. So I really just need a few swipes of this product on each brow to fill in some lighter areas and set them in place for the day. The applicator is like a tiny mascara wand, so the application is simply foolproof.
I finish my eye area with the ever important eyelashes! I really can’t avoid this step at all. It actually helps make me look awake even if I haven’t had my
cup cups, multiple cups of coffee yet. Size Queen Too Faced Mascara ($21) has been one of my favorites for quite awhile. This will give you mega eyelashes without the need to add any. I’m like the next girl that loves her false eyelashes, but not at six in the morning. This mascara plumps up my lashes. They look so thick and full. I have never had a problem with it applying or looking clumpy, the applicator really separates your lashes. I apply two coats to my top lashes and one coat to my bottom. By the time I have completed this step I look like I am actually awake and ready to go! I also really like this and this mascara.
Now swipe on your favorite lip gloss and you’re ready to head out the door.
