Since I started this blog in January, I have tried a lot of new ideas for posts. I really like trying new things to keep my content fresh and exciting. I seriously don’t want to bore you, or me for that matter! I have started a handful of categories that I plan on continuing and developing as time goes on. This blog truly is a work in progress and I have enjoyed (and hope you have) creating a place to share my ideas/thoughts on fashion and beauty, products I love, and even throwing in some crazy/random stories.
I had a thought this morning – rare I know, especially because it was before noon! So, my brain was actually operating at 6:30 this morning – SUCCESS! and giving me good ideas at that. Of course this always happens when I’m in the middle of something and have zero time to write things down. I was lucky this time. I actually remembered most of what I wanted to do and say. I wanted to create a new blog post. It has been a couple weeks since I have been able to write or create a new idea for a post. Life has really gotten in the way and I haven’t been able to spend the time I want on my blog. Lucky for you that changed today.
I have a small addiction to coffee. Okay, bigger than small, huge actually. It makes up about 96.78% of my bloodstream. No lie. I have to either buy one on my way to work, Extra Large, Dark Roast, Black please, or make one as soon as I arrive to work. Now you’re all thinking, blah blah blah, Amanda this has nothing to do with fashion, beauty, and I’m totally leaving this post. I know it doesn’t. Bear with me.
I was lucky enough to try a cold brew coffee from Barnie’s Coffee & Tea Co. and it was really good. Surprisingly good. I am totally NOT getting paid to tell you this either. I have loved how easy it is to make – you literally just put the coffee pod in water and let it steep. It is a time saver and has allowed me to come out of zombie mode easier than before. What’s so great is you can use the cold brew pods to make hot or iced coffee. I have been using these new found coffee pods to make iced coffee at home.
Which has led me to the first post in this new blog category, “What Is This Bombshell Making?” This is going to be the category on my blog where I talk about all things food and drink, because let’s face it this Bombshell loves to eat and drink! Seriously, LOVE to. Self proclaimed: junk food junkie.
So, What Is This Bombshell Making?….Iced Vanilla Coffee
When we start to get warmer temps – I love to drink iced coffee. The problem is I spend way too much dinero on iced coffee when I could easily make it at home. So that is just what this Bombshell has started doing and it has been a delicious decision. The key to making the best iced coffee in my opinion is making it with vanilla flavoring. Lucky for you I am about to share my favorite recipe to make your own vanilla syrup at home!! Once you add this to your iced coffee you’ll never want to stop making them at home.
Homemade Vanilla Syrup
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup water
- 1 vanilla bean, sliced open vertically and seeds scraped
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- In a uber small saucepan – place sugar, water, and the vanilla bean and seeds.
- Bring to boil (I use a medium heat). Once you have achieved a nice rolling boil you can then remove from heat.
- Let this cool for 1/2 hour.
- Add vanilla extract to your syrup.
- The final step is to strain your syrup.
You are now ready to store your homemade syrup. I use a mason jar and keep it in the refrigerator. The nice thing is it will keep for up to 2 weeks. Good luck keeping it around that long, but if it does – 2 weeks should be your max.
Now that you have your vanilla syrup on hand you are ready to assemble your drink. I use about a 16 oz glass and fill 1/2 way with ice. I have been using my cold brew coffee so that helps to not melt your ice and water down your coffee. I’m not a creamer user, but you can add your cream and as little or as much vanilla syrup as you like next. I like about a tablespoon or so. Viola! Iced Vanilla Coffee!!! Pretty easy and I think anyone can handle this – no matter how kitchen-challenged you might be.
I hope you all enjoyed this first post about food and drink that is a little bit outside of the box from what I usually post. I think it is a great addition to my blog and I hope you do too! Leave your comments below about any food or drink recipes you would love for me to post about.
